Chapter 21

The moonlit waterfall cast a shimmering glow on Mokra’s teal skin as our lips met in a passionate embrace. The moonlight’s reflection across the cool water glistened on her body, making her seem almost ethereal. I reluctantly pulled away and looked into her eyes, feeling the warmth of our connection.

“I never thought...,” I began, my voice barely more than a whisper, drowned by the symphony of the night. Mokra simply stood there in silence, her eyes never leaving mine. She raised her free hand to touch my cheek, her cool fingers trailing down to my neck, sending chills through me.

“You don’t have to say anything,” she murmured, her voice enticing, like the sultry hymn of a siren breaking through the stillness of the night. Her fingers traced circles on my skin, her touch as light as a cobweb, yet potent enough to set my blood aflame.

“I...” I attempted again, yet no words seemed adequate to capture the torrent of emotions that surged within me.

Mokra’s finger pressed against my lips, halting my stammering confession. “Sit here with me,” she soothed, her voice a melody interleaved with the rustling leaves and the cascading waterfall. “Enjoy our time together.”

She moved closer, the scent of earth and moss mingling with her natural perfume. We sat together on the precipice of the falls, our feet dangling dangerously over the churning water below. Time seemed to have lost its relevance, its grip on us weakening as we surrendered to the enchantment of our shared moment.

I watched the sky, the blanket of stars growing thicker with each passing moment. Mokra’s head rested gently against my shoulder, her rhythmic breaths echoing in my ear. The surrounding jungle seemed to quiet, as if sensing the delicate intimacy that unfolded between us. Time had become our captive, bound in a cocoon of silence and companionship that I wished would never end.

Eventually, though, the night got cold.

“Let’s go home,” I said with a grin, scooping her up in my arms. She giggled and wrapped her arms around my neck, clearly enjoying the sudden change in position. As we made our way back to Skrulgara, Mokra playfully kissed my throat and her hands roamed across my chest, leaving trails of tingling sensation in their wake.

“Can’t wait to add you to the family,” I teased, my voice filled with genuine excitement. I had grown fond of Vornna and Grisla, and caring about the two of them had made me much more comfortable with the idea of sharing my heart with many—and there was something about Mokra that just called to me. Maybe it was her wild, untamed spirit or her fierce independence. Whatever it was, it drew me in like a moth to a flame.

From the way her eyes smoldered as she looked up at me, she clearly shared the feeling. She brought her hands up to my cheek, and I bent down to kiss her. The moment was perfect.

Nothing could ruin it.

Nothing other than the orc scouts from earlier, bursting into the clearing where we stood.
